Let's Pray Together
Good night!

We have had a full day. Much lies behind us. Maybe there are things we regret; maybe some things we repent of; but all is under the blood. Christ is victor.

Prayer Compline 1

L The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end.

C Amen.

L Brethren, be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist, steadfast in the faith.

C But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

L Thanks be to God.

C Our help is in the name of the Lord who hath made heaven and earth.

L We confess to God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, that we have sinned in thought, word and deed, through our own grievous fault. Wherefore we pray God to have mercy upon us.

C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us all our sins and deliver us from all evil, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

L May the almighty and merciful Lord grant unto us pardon and remission of all our sins, time for amendment of life, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit.

C O God, make speed to save us.

L O Lord, make haste to help us.

C Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness : thou hast set me at liberty when I was in trouble; have mercy upon me, and hearken unto my prayer.

L O ye sons of men, how long will ye blaspheme mine honour : and have such pleasure in vanity, and seek after lying? Know this also, that the Lord hath chosen to himself the man that is godly : when I call upon the Lord, he will hear me.

C Stand in awe, and sin not : commune with your own heart, and in your chamber, and be still.Offer the sacrifice of righteousness : and put your trust in the Lord.

L There be many that say : Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up : the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart : since the time that their corn, and wine, and oil increased. I will lay me down in peace, and take my rest : for it is thou, Lord, only, that makest me dwell in safety.

L (Personal Requests)

L Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit. For thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, thou God of truth.

C Keep me as the apple of an eye. Hide me under the shadow of thy wings.

L Preserve us, O Lord, while waking, and guard us while sleeping, that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

C (Personal Requests)

C 3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith. 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

L 8We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9We also know that law[a] is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

C 12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

L 15Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. 16But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

C 18Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, 19holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. 20Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

L (personal requests)

L Look down, O Lord, from thy heavenly throne, illuminate the darkness of this night with thy celestial brightness, and from the sons of light banish the deeds of darkness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C Be present, O merciful God, and protect us through the silent hours of this night, so that we who are wearied by the changes and chances of this fleeting world, may repose upon thy eternal changelessness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C (Personal Requests)

C We will lay us down in peace and take our rest.

L For it is thou, Lord, only that makest us dwell in safety.

C Abide with us, O Lord, for it is toward evening and the day is far spent.

L As the watchmen look for the morning, do we look for thee, O Christ.

C The Lord be with you

L and with thy spirit.

C Let us bless the Lord.

L Thanks be to God.

C The almighty and merciful Lord, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost,

bless us and preserve us.

L Amen.
